What do we mean by a story? What do we mean by truth? In the 21st century, great emphasis is placed upon “the truth”, and there is a great hunger for “true stories”.
But “true stories” are constructed in the same way that fiction is. Fragments of memory are assembled into a narrative: those fragments are subjective, biased.
In French, however, “une histoire“ may mean “history” but it may also mean “story” – allowing much more room to move between “fiction” and “truth”. The distinction between the two, as we will discover, can be very narrow indeed, if it exists at all.
Followed by workshops and shared work.
Evening: Cabaret of songs – linked to stories, about stories. With a little help from the participants.
Friday the 3rd of June
The Storyteller as European Citizen and Artist of Words – for what Audiences, in which Places?
APAC – France’s National Storytelling Association – will be proposing to participants in the 2016 FEST Conference, to exchange experiences and opinions on the theme of “The Functions of the Stroryteller” and the role(s) of the Storyteller in contemporary society.
After an historic overview, these functions will be explored in today’s world through round tables, pratical workshops and games.
In particular we will be taking up the notions of the storyteller as citizen, his or her choice of repertory, what positions to take in the face of world events, breaking down barriers between different audiences, where to tell etc. So that, together, we can question and imagine projects and perspectives for Europe.
Evening: Tasting.
Saturday the 4th of June
Morning: General assembly of FEST Members.
Afternoon: Free participation to an open stage in “Anis Gras” a very special cultural place close to Paris. “Hearing languages and stories from Europe”.
And then a free weekend in Paris…!
